It is wise to be careful when commenting on Umno. Most BN elected representatives depend on Umno and Malay votes. It is a fact that Umno/ Tajol Rosli lobbied hard to broker the seat for her .
Therefore, she has to be constantly aware of the sensitivities of Umno and develop the art of "tai chi" to maintain the balance of political influence.

Beijing in the springtime
Hi,
I'm back. The weather in Beijing was cool...comfortable 16 celsius. Everywhere one is greeted by a certian type of plant with hardly any leaves but the pink blooms seem to sprout out of the branches. The flowers are so attractive that they seem artificial!!
For this trip, there was no sight seeing of the usual tourist spots of Beijing city. Instaed went out of the city.
First, a day trip to the Beijing Botanical Gardens gave me the opportunity to fearst my eyes on the lovely flowers. The most amazing was the tulip garden..There were tulips of different varieties , colours, sizes and shapes. I think the spring flower show in Amsterdam is a distant second!! Also one can visit the Wofo Temple here.
Another day was a visit to Factory 798 in the Dashanzi Art district located at the jiuxianqiao exit from the airport expressway. There are many galleries for those interetsed in contemporary arts. Not to be missed will be th UCCA (Ullens Centre for contemporary Arts) and many others.
To gauge my fitness level a day spent in Siangshan Si and Biyuian Si (Fragrant temple and azure cloud temple) will took me back in history as well as back to nature.
The last day trip was to the Pagoda forest in the hills (I've forgotten the name) where the remaining five pagodas contain the remains of the revered monks who lived and practised there in ancient times. Good place for family picnics.
All in all enjoyed myself.

bali
Just returned from Bali. There are many interesting facets to this tourist destination.
Food first...
"Babi guling" is a common sign board. You have guessed right... roast suckling piglet!!!But unfortunately had no chance to try it. So for the foodies of "babi guling" here is the place to head out for.
Seafood... had an expensive meal in Jimbaran bay... crabs, fish cuttle fish, prawns on the beach complete with seranade from a five piece band, with background music of strong waves breaking in!! The food was Ok but it was the essence of the Balinese experience that patched the big hole in our purses.
Yes there are lots of seafood here but you must know where to go. And that was what we found out the following night... in a "choo char" coffee shop run by Hokkien speaking Chinese down the road five blocks from Hotel Ratna Kuta (a 3 starhotel in town). Fresh steam fish, sweet sour crabs, prawn assan tumis, bbq squid and much much more....very fair price.
For lunch it was typical tourist buffet fare in resort locations overlookin the rice paddies with Mt. Catur in the backgroung on day one, and also at Kintamani with a scenic view of Mt Baturon day two. The high rating of the view compensated for the shortfall in food taste.
For drinks, do not miss out on the avocado smoothie with gula melaks syrup... yes it was heavenly!!
More on other aspects another time.
