Training workshops

July has been a busy month with many training assignments. I would like to highlight the two workshops in KBU. The young lecturers were vibrant and interactive. The exchange of ideas enlightened me on many of the issues faced by lecturers and students in private colleges.
The enthusiasm of the lecturers together with their potential in the graphic media as well as their perceptiveness of issues related to the topics discussed contributed to the learning experience.

I enjoyed myself and I also learnt a lot in the process of sharing my knowledge and experiences.
My thanks to the college authorities especially to the Deputy Principal who through his proactiveness arranged for these workshops. I went away satisfied when I sensed the positive attitude and motivation of the lecturers.

I hope to return to conduct more training workshops.

visitor from Bangkok

Taiping has a very powerful drawing point-food!!! My dear friend has been here for only three days but she has tasted many of our local favourites such as satay, prawn noodle, chendol, popiah, char kuey teow, nasi bryani and many others.

But the most memorable for her was the food served in my neighbour's home yesterday. It was the celebration of the coulpe's 32nd wedding anninversary. The food was catered by a famous restaurant in Bagan Serai. Both the vegetarian as well as the other dishes were simply mouth watering, though a bit too spicy for the Chinese palate. The mango chutney was very refreshing and went well with the grilled chilli chicken. The mutton kurma was a delight for my grandsons. Tofu cooked with spicy tomato sauce is a new version of vegetarian cusine. The culmination of all this rich and spicy food was the moist butter and almond cake topped with creamy royal icing.

All went away fully satiated!!!

Before her departure she will be doing more retail therapy in the main wet market in Taiping, buying rojak sauce, ikan bilis, lau wong kua, beh teh saw and ....I don't know what else!!!

Teardrop monument in Bayonne,NJ

This is the latest monument in New Jersey. This anti terrorism monument was donated by Russia in memory of those who perished in the 911 attack on the twin towers. Located in Bayonne, it faces the Statue of Liberty and commands a good view of Manhatten skyline.

We located the place after a few enquiries because many people have not heard of this new monument. So those planning a visit to New York, check this place out.

Off to New York and Washington

Just recovered from a bout of flu and am now ready for this adventure.

Washington will be my second visit and I am looking forward to revisit some of the places.
But I am more excited about New York as this will be my first visit.

A friend has just shared her experience of going up the Statue of Liberty. She described the sense of claustrophobia as she climbed through the neck of Liberty and then rewarded with the wonderful panoramic view from the crown after this. I am certainly looking forward to live this experience.

Another friend recommended the new monument dedicated to anti terrorism. The forward I received showed this hugh tear drop mounted on a sculpture which was designed, produced and donated by Russia. This is the new tourist sight in ground zero.

I have to be selective for there are so many things to experience in this bustling city. Will be sharing my experiences later.

Hari Ibu 2009

The Lemons boys called from Beijing to wish me Happy Grandmothers' Day. It was uplifting to hear them sing the song in Chinese. I'm so proud of them. They have picked up the language so fast. This is a reminder that I have to put in more effort to pick up spoken Chinese. I take the easy way out, that is by watching TV shows. But I rely too much on the subtitles. Well, I will keep on with my weak effort and eventually I will succeed.

We had a good time yesterday. SSL Traders served an affordable set lunch for RM 9.90.

The main topic of conversation was the TMGS old gals function to be held on August 15. So bookmark this date. I believe that there will be plenty in store, not to mention the fellowship with former classmates and teachers.

Day after Hi TMGS

Had a wonderful time yesterday in Hotel Singgahsana.

Meeting up with former collegues, catching up with developments over all these years, made me feel young again.Though the years may have added some wisdom lines on their faces, the spirit still remained unchanged.

It was a rewarding experience to have former students come up to introduce themeselves and also to convey regards. Their success stories in all their undertakings more than make up for some of the frustrations and anguished moments as a teacher.

The air was fully charged with the spirit of "Live worthily" and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The entertaining presentations from the Show girls, the melodious singing of the song birds and the presentation of the sentimental poem by Suet Fun kept everyone involved the whole afternoon.

As an added bonus,I priveleged to meet Swee Bin and Suet Fun. Such great ladies who have selflessly rendered service to their alma mater. We are proud of you and dp continue with the good work.
Excuse the photos which were taken a few years ago. I am learning to insert pics from Swee Bins quick instructions to me yesterday.

Workers Day

Workers Day today.
We love it because it is a holiday. Right? Take this as a chance to catch up in the backlog of household chores. It is a day to celebrate "workers" and recognise their contribution to society.

Workers, too on their part must discharge their responsibilities well and be at all times honest and committed

Cherish TMGS

The committee of cherish TMGS has done a good job in their fund raising efforts. It is heartwarming that their noble intentions will benefit the school which is really in bad shape.

I was in TMGS for 10 years from 1989-1997 and I have strong sentiments for the school. So I am happy that I will be attending the Hi Tea function in Hotel Singgahsana in PJ this Sunday. I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet these dedicated group o former students especially Swee Bin. I know its going to be great fun. Bye.

Swine flu

This recent development of swine flu in Mexico of is very disturbing.
We hope that prompt measures will be taken soon to prevent a pandemic.
I have plans to travel to New York in the third week of May and a travel advisory has been out with regards to certain places in US including California and New York. We all have our concerns and let us hope for the best.

Taiping Ceragem Centre

The Ceragem centre in Jalan Tupai opened in May 2006. Potential customers have the privilege of unlimited free trials of the use of the bed. The centre has been popular with the people of Taiping who have been turning up everyday over the last three years to use the massage beds. A community of like minded people from all walks of life have been established all with the common goal of achieving good health.

Today is the last day that the centre in Taiping will be in operations. This is indeed sad for the users who have benefitted from the use of the bed but are unable to purchase it. They are now left in the lurch. As the oft quoted saying goes "all good things will have to come to an end" so we have to accept this situation and will seek other options in the quests for good health and wellness.

I take this opportunity to thank the management of Ceragem Malaysia for initiating this centre in Taiping and for its support for three years. I also wish them all the best in their business development in other parts of the country.

TMGS Hi Tea

Congratulations Gals. You have done a good job.

I was the afternoon supervisor and then later the vice principal from 1989 to 1997.
I am impressed with the good work that you have done so far to raise money for the development of the school. I am confident that you will achieve your target.

There is an informal group initiated by a long serving Principal of the school. It is called the TMGS retirees club and they meet once a month. It is a pity that this group was not involved in these historic events because such a group is a good network!

I wish you all the best and may TMGS continue to "Live worthily"
A new political era has just began. The new PM has the "1 Malaysia "slogan. We are still vague what this slogan means and what is in store for us. It is going to be very challenging for there is in a paradgim shift in the political climate and the effects of the world economic crisis is slowly being felt in our country.

But be that as it may life will still have to go on for all of us and we have to steel ourselves to weather the storm ahead of us. So in our own way we will have to use whatever life skills that we have to help us stay contented and happy.

As for me my recent exposure to Longevitology (as taught by Teacher Wei from Taiwan) is keeping me occupied. For those who are curious ,Youtube has many video clips which are quite informative.

I'm back

Hi All,

I'm back.

Cheng Beng obligations have been fulfilled. Also the chance to catch up with relatives makes the effort worthwhile.

We all await the outcome the much talked about Bukit Gantang seat. Well, the results will be known tonight.

We did some rounds in Simpang and Changkat Jering. The poster war indicates that BN is ahead but who can tell. We will wait and see.
